Last week I heard from almost everyone I spoke with here on Oahu that they were tired, or they felt ill or nauseous, had herpes breakouts, felt down or disillusioned, depressed, exhausted.
I was stunned to see so many people down at the dumps. But when I spoke with my health coach on Saturday, I got an answer.
She told me her ‘inside info people’ had told her that the
military base here in Kaneohe had been dumping something like 2.5 tons – not pounds, tons – of aluminum powder into the air during the last week. When I heard her say that I flashed on how I had distinctly heard planes several nights in a row that seemed to be flying lower and louder than usual.
Now, in itself, alone, having that stuff dumped into the air is a drag. But then she went on to say that the aluminum was coated with stuff like e-coli, herpes infectants and other great, healthy stuff (am I being cynical here? Oh yes.)
She went on to say that her sources said it was being done to ’see how the winds flow, and how many people would get sick, so we can see how to protect the area.’ That this was being done in the sake of “national security.” Right. Make us sick so we can be safe.
Frankly, it’s freaky talking about stuff like that, but I think it’s so important to remind you that if you’re feeling down and out or sick and tired and depressed, IT MAY NOT BE YOU.
We are so accustomed to self-blame – “you created it” “take personal responsibility” – that we forget to take into account the great mystery of Other.
Yes, you might have created your experience in life so that you live in an area where military or other forces do experiments – but is that your fault? No.
You just don’t know what you don’t know. Quit using up valuable energy kicking yourself black and blue.
But once you do know something new that sheds light on a problem or challenge, that’s where responsibility comes in – the ability to respond to the situation and make a clear, conscious choice.
So now I know that not only does the military dump stuff into the air at quite regular intervals (yes, those light, fluffy-looking jet-streams, con-trails, etc.), but also that Hawaii also has one of the highest amounts of depleted uranium (thanks again, military) in its soil and at the beaches.
My choice could be to go or stay, and any number of permutations – like, if I stayed, would I fight this amazingly unconscious violation of health that these people are doing? Would I keep quiet? What?
No, I don’t fight. To me, resisting is as much an error as the thing I might fight.
But I do believe in bypass. Like digital filmography had no fight with Polaroid – why bother? It just came out and – poof – Polaroid was outdated, and a couple years later folded. No fight.
So how we can we bypass this disgusting travesty that is going on? It’d be easy to say “those people” and do the blame-blame shame-shame game. The question is, how can a consciousness and way of life where this kind of violation is possible be, much less even thought of?
I believe that the answer lies in being as conscious as we can in our own individual lives. One person can literally change everything through the choices s/he makes. There are too many examples of that to cite – Ghandi – etc. – you know who they are. And most of the life-changers we know of did so at huge personal peril.
I don’t think most of us need to make such grandiose changes, but I do think we need to make the small choices that add up to a big change in how we treat the earth and the people and other living things upon it.
So by our own choices we bypass what we might call evil, and use the energy we might have wasted dwelling upon and spending energy fighting it. For making new, more conscious and higher choices.
How do you not fight? How do you bypass evil? By focusing on and living your heart’s deepest desires, your Dreams, your highest purpose.
Even if you don’t know what those are – constantly clearing the path to find out, constantly intent on attempting to live a high-vibration life – keeps you focused on the higher intention, the higher vibration.
Just as you cannot fight your shadow, and the more you focus on it and try to eliminate it, the more frustrated and helpless you will feel.
But the instant you simply turn toward the sun, your awareness and energy is now directed in a higher, more beneficial direction. The fight is gone, the shadow is where it belongs and can no longer rule you, and you are free to create again.
Here’s to consciousness! Knowingness, choosee-ingness, deciding-ness, BEingness!
The Real Work
It may be that
when we no longer know what to do
we have come
to our real work,
and that
when we no longer know
which way to go
we have come to our real journey.
The mind that is not baffled
is not employed.
The impeded stream
is the one that sings.
~ Wendell Berry (Collected Poems)
Keep singing, keep knowing, keep discovering. I support you in that and send you my heart’s deepest love for it.
Remember I love you -
aloha -
